Bike Rides

After parking your camper, there are multiple opportunities for bike riding and cycling tours around the local Telgte area.

The popular cycling routes are generally well developed and signposted, although they do not always signpost the shortest route. If you have specific destinations, it is advisable to take a look at the cycling map.

For hard-core cyclists and mountain bikers, the day tour is ideal from here to BadIburg, where you enter the “Hermannsweg” along the ridge in a westerly direction to Tecklenburg, from there back or further to Ibbenbüren, Riesenbeck or even to the NassenDreieck, where the central canal in flows into the Dortmund-Ems Canal. From there back along the Dortmund-Ems Canal to Schmedehausen and then through the heath back to Vadrup.

Worth seeing along the route is Bad Iburg, host of the Lower Saxony State Horticultural Shows, the Malepadus mountain restaurant (Bavarian, really good authentic specialties and giant cream puffs. The blue lagoon between Lengerich and Tecklenburg, the historic old town of Tecklenburg and the Dorinther cliffs. (Length between 90 – 130 km)

A nice tour to the east is offered via Ostbevern, Glandorf, Harkotten Castle from Korff, to Warendorf with its state stud farm and beautiful, historic market square.

To the west you come to the canal and can navigate the old, still active water crossing of the Ems and next to it you can visit the new building with a canal bypass, currently the largest construction site in NRW with an information center for canal expansion. Behind them, a paradise for ornithologists and the tranquil Gimbte is well worth a look.

Local Sightseeing

By bike you can reach the idyllic place of pilgrimage Telgte with its Marienkapelle with various museums, lovely restaurants and the beautiful market square via beautiful paths past the house Langen. Distance by bike 8 km

The city of the Westphalian Peace of Münster (Muenster) is easy to reach from here.

The most direct route from us is by bicycle past the native cattle enclosure via the Ems, to Handorf through the Boniburg forest via the lock along the canal to the city centre of Muenster.

The main sights are the cathedral, Prinzipalmarkt, Lamberti Church with the Anabaptists’ cages and the town hall with the Hall of Peace. A visit is particularly recommended on market days, which takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Distance by bike 13 km.

Traditional restaurants that we recommend are the Große- and Kleine Kiepenkerl, Stuhlmacher, Altes Gasthaus Lever and Gasthaus Feldmann for high demands, all around the center near the Prinzipalmarkt.

For thriller fans, the Antiquariat Soder opposite the Überwasserkirche, below the cathedral, is a must. He the German “Wilsberg”-crime movies are made.

It is also good to cycle around Lake Aasee with a few places to stop for refreshments, but very crowded on Sundays.

Walks and Hikes

From the horse farm camping ground there are various hikes. One nice south-east hike from here goes along along the Ems to the confluence of the Bever river. You can go back via Haus Langen or further via the Ems, then on the other side take the first dirt road on the right through the Lauheide cemetery to the Benediktshof and from there again via the Ems past the game reserve back to the horse farm. Approx. 2.5 hours

Eating Out & Dining near Telgte

You can eat well locally in Vadrup in “Piesers Gasthaus” bistro and a restaurant with beer garden. Open from Wednesday to Saturday from 5 p.m., Sunday from 11.30 a.m Since the restaurant is usually well frequented, we recommend making a reservation by calling +49 2504 8201. The restaurant also offers “to go” meals. Distance: 1.4 km

You can also eat good plain food with Westphalian cuisine in the “zur Bever” restaurant. There is also a beer garden directly on the Bever here, but it is on a main road and is a bit noisy during rush hour. Distance from Haus Langen by bike is just under 4 km.

The beautifully located restaurant “Waldhütte” in the Klatenberge between Westbevern and Telgte offers upscale, yet down-to-earth gastronomy. Phone 02504-920-0.

Telgte also offers a variety of culinary options, it is simply nice and cheap at “Tante Lina” in the chapel street, simple, Westphalian cuisine at reasonable prices. The restaurateurs around Telgte market square also offer good, down-to-earth cuisine. Burger fans are welcome in the “Pizza Pavillion” in Telgte, where you get the best Burger in town!
